GHCCC Ribbon Cutting @ Contempo Salon
Three lucky ladies had a complete make over thanks to
Dwayne Adams and his staff from Contempo Salon and Day
Spa. If it hadn't been for Joyce Rasmussen's daughter
visiting from India this may never have come about. "My
daughter's hair was damaged by the air and pollution
over there," said Rasmussen, the program director for
the Women of Sugarmill Woods. Her daughter turned to
Adams for help.
Adams specializes in hair and color restoration.
Rasmussen went along with her daughter for her final
visit before returning to India and was impressed with
his work and caring staff. "I asked if he would do a
make over for our club," she said. "He was so easy to
talk to, before I left he offered to do three make overs."
Members put their names into a basket. Jean Underwood,
Jan Reeves and Janet Mark were the three names drawn.
They were all nervous and a bit apprehensive.
Each of the ladies had their hair colored, cut and
styled. "The only hair color I use is from Italy," said
Adams. "I've studied this hair color in Milan and
brought it back with me."
The week prior, the ladies had
their hair colored. When they arrived for the big day
they hadn't done anything with their hair or face. But
they knew they wouldn't be leaving that way. In fact,
they weren't sure what they'd look like.
Janet Mark arrived for her hair color with an old frost
in her hair. She left with honey blonde hair and more
even tones. "Natural hair color is lighter on top, then
a little darker in the middle and darker at the bottom,"
said Adams.
"No one's hair is all one color."
"I'm going to have to stand up to sleep so I don't ruin
my hair," said Mark.
Jan Reese wanted to do something
funky. She and her stylist chose blonde and honey blonde
hair color with red and honey highlights. "I love the
color.
I'm definitely going to try to keep it," said
Reese.
Jeanne Underwood went with a mahogany color. Light
mahogany on top that graduated to a dark rich mahogany
at the neckline. She has fire red highlights as an
accent. "It's a little bit of a shock. I've
never had hair this short," said Underwood.

Cecile Marquis is an aesthetician and certified make-up
artist. She applied each of the women's make-up. She
explained the need to blend make-up and to use certain
colors that match a person's skin tone. Her knowledge of
face peels and microdermabrasion
interested many. This procedure eliminates some of the
fine lines on the face.
"You can actually feel your skin breathing after having
it done," said Marquis.
Adams has owned Contempo since 1995 and is located in
Hernando Beach. Prior to opening this salon and day spa
he resided in Tampa where he owned several beauty
schools. He can be reached at 352-597-4939. "Dwayne and
his staff are true artists," said Rasmussen.
